  1. Operations / Technical Services
  2. Full-time

__jobinformationwidget.freetext.LocationText__

Mosgiel, Otago, New Zealand

The role:

As a Field Operator, you’ll take part in large-scale pest control and conservation projects across some of New Zealand’s most remote and iconic landscapes. Your work will include animal pest management using trapping and toxin deployment methods targeting common pests such as wallabies, possums, and ungulates, as well as controlling invasive pest plants that threaten native ecosystems. You’ll also support wider conservation activities, helping to restore habitats and protect biodiversity.

In return, you’ll gain practical, hands-on experience, work toward industry-recognised qualifications, and join a team that values grit, reliability, and results.

Location:

Despite our Otago base being situated in Mosgiel, our team frequently travel to operational sites across the South Island, providing the opportunity to experience New Zealand off the beaten track. In this role, a large majority of the time you will be required to stay away for the working week (Mon - Fri) plus the occasional 10-day stint, with accommodation and meals provided.

Why join us?

  • Great pay with competitive hourly rates
  • Adventure with comfort, shared accommodation and meals provided while working away
  • Grow your career with nationwide progression opportunities
  • Reliable, steady work you can count on year-round
  • Hands-on training and support to build your skills and confidence

What we’re looking for:

  • Fit, resilient, and confident working in steep, remote terrain and all weather
  • Able to work away from home during the working week
  • Strong communication skills with a solid commitment to health & safety
  • Field experience such as hunting (ungulates, possums, rabbits) and/or pest-plant control
  • Able to work independently and manage time well
  • Full NZ driver’s licence (clean record) and confident with off-road vehicles
  • Eligible to work full-time in NZ and able to pass a criminal record check

Desirable but not essential:

  • Previous experience or qualifications in pest control or NZ biosecurity work
  • First Aid Certificate
  • ATV, LUV, or 4WD qualifications
  • GrowSafe or Controlled Substance Licence
  • NZ Firearms Licence
  • Chainsaw certification or accreditation

Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment assessment, including medical, reference, and criminal background checks, meeting Rentokil Initial's satisfactory criteria.
