An opportunity has come up to join the Asia MENAT team as the Finance Director for the Malaysia ‘cluster’ of countries (Malaysia, Philippines, Brunei).
We are looking for a dynamic and energised Commercial Finance leader with strong communication skills who can be part of the Malaysia cluster leadership team led by MD, Carol Lam. It has a full functional leadership team driving business results (including Marketing, Sales, Operations, HR, IT). The role is responsible for the P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flows for the three countries.
Grading is at 4/14, it is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and is highly visible across the region. This year’s forecast is for Revenue ~$86m, Profit ~$19m (Margin ~22%) and OCF ~17m (Cash Conversion 90%) across strong Hygiene and Pest Control.

In this role you will be responsible for:
Finance Director - own and is accountable for the FP&A process and Finance Reporting for Malaysia, Philippines and Brunei
- Engage with the business to support the development of the strategy with a focus on growth. Translate the business plan into the financial plan.
- Accountable for the annual operating plan and monitoring delivery – P&L, cash flow (receivables) and KPIs
- A leading member within the Asia Finance Leadership team
- Keep the business up to date with relevant statutory, internal, or external regulations, standards, and codes of good practice
Malaysia Finance Director
- A key member of the country management team as the commercial insight for the business
- With the senior management team, deliver the growth and profit agenda through commercial analysis of Pest Control and Hygiene to identify and recommend options
- With the MD, deliver acquisition growth through a pipeline of deals.
Job Activities:
Malaysia Country FD
- Strategic planning, annual planning, forecasting & monitoring performance
- Run the annual operating plan process that delivers an annual financial plan in line with the country’s strategic objectives
- Track monthly performance versus plan and communicate the business drivers of variances (both positive & negative) across all dimensions of the plan – P&L, cash flow (receivables) & KPIs
- Run the monthly forecast process
- Identify key risks to delivery of financial targets with options to mitigate
- Challenge the business to make tough choices on mitigation plans
- Along with the Cluster MD, run the monthly country performance review with Asia MD & Asia FD. Conduct ad hoc “deep dive” reviews on business performance.
Commercial Insight and Analysis
- Communicate the monthly financial performance to the senior management team and branches so that they understand the choices they have to improve financial performance
- Provide monthly financial reports and branch scorecards in a format that is easy for them to understand and act on.
- Run the monthly performance reviews
- Benchmark branches to identify best practice and opportunities for improvement
- Partner with the country management team in financial decision making such as ROI on capital investments, pricing, productivity initiatives & sales/service personnel investment
- Sponsor or deliver finance training to the country and branch teams to improve their understanding of the business financial drivers and help build their commercial capability
M&A
- Working with the MD and Asia Director M&A agree the valuation model based on the assumptions in the business case
- Oversee the output from the third party Due Diligence partner with respect to the target business financial statements & processes. Challenge and re-direct around areas of concern
- Lead finance integration into financial operations including business ownership for finance systems deployment
Functional Leadership
- Drive digital transformation for FP&A and for key business processes (invoicing, collections, proof of service capture)
- Contribute to the Asia Finance Leadership Team as a senior member of the team.
- Manage a Malaysia-based team (Malaysia country finance team and regional FP&A)
- Bring best practices to the table that can be adopted by other countries
- Act as a role model for ethics and standards of the company.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- University degree
- CPA/CA qualified
- Financial Reporting and FP&A (essential)
- M&A (preferred)
- Expertise in several finance disciplines with FP&A a must have
- 10+ years of experience in finance & accounting roles
- Finance Director for a business unit / division, with a track record of delivering value to the business beyond audited accounts
- Leadership of cross-country teams
- Ownership of regional / cross-country processes and systems
- Leadership, interpersonal & communication skills - at ease working with leaders in other disciplines and from diverse backgrounds
- Strong financial modelling skills
- Working capital management, particularly receivables
- Ability to interrogate systems and data to produce insights.
- Continuous improvement mindset and an innovative approach to with the energy to influence and drive changes
- Agility to understand challenges of a services business and how it operates within different economic sectors (experience from the services sector not essential)
