Marketing and Innovation Function
The Marketing & Innovation (M&I) function is responsible for the overall growth strategy of the
Rentokil Initial Group across the Pest and Hygiene categories. M&I is accountable for all
marketing and innovation activities, including branding and communication, proposition
development and deployment, product and service innovations, as well as the science and
regulatory programs. It is also responsible for marketing services.
The M&I Science and Innovation Team is responsible for the development, feasibility
assessment and launch support of new pest control products and services across our global
operation comprising over 75 businesses.
The North American science and innovation team is comprised of 10 full time colleagues
reporting to the Head of Science and Innovation.
The Entomology research colleagues are based in Dallas and responsible for the leadership and
development of all arthropod pest related innovation and service support projects for ideation
to feasibility including laboratory bioassay testing world-wide field trial coordination and
execution.
The science and innovation team has two main interests in urban insect pests: the study of
their behaviour; and the assessment and development of methods to exclude, restrict, destroy
and monitor populations within an urban setting. This team is new to North America and has
objectives to assess and document the current state of urban insect pest management, globally,
and keeps abreast of new developments to maintain Rentokil’s market position as the world’s
largest pest control provider.
The role of the Entomology Laboratory Technician will be to support the Senior Entomologists
in the delivery of innovation projects and testing initiatives through assisting in the
management of the laboratory insect cultures to maintain a state of readiness to undertake
product testing and rapid feasibility assessments.
Purpose of Role
Reporting to the Principal Entomologist, your role will be varied and involve all aspects of
culturing insects from the daily husbandry to studying behaviour and assisting in the running of
exciting trials on new products.
Based at the Rentokil Terminix Innovation Center in Dallas, Texas, and ideally suited to a
confident individual with an interest in science and nature, the Laboratory Technician will be
relied upon to evaluate products and new project innovations and effectively communicate
these findings to the rest of the team.
During your work you will have regular contact with colleagues from around the world and
from other departments within the wider Marketing and Innovation team.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities for this role include:
▪ Projects
o Run projects / project work packages and serve as a resource on other M&I
projects, including the potential to assist in field trials.
o Assist the Entomology team to coordinate laboratory workloads in order to
deliver projects on time, in full.
o Ensure that all work is proceeding to plan, and where they are not escalating
risk, issues and dependencies to the principal entomologist.
o Report on project progression through all Project Stage Gates in conjunction
with Project Managers, and assist with project documentation. This may include
presenting updates on own projects at relevant internal meetings.
▪ Laboratory
o Alongside the Entomology team, ensuring the insect colonies and associated
laboratory equipment and test rooms are maintained in a state of readiness for
test work, and fit for display to visiting staff or customers.
o Maintaining a sound understanding of pest insect biology in order to adapt and
improve culturing techniques for all species held in the Power centre and be able
to explain their relevance to pest control.
o Monitor usage and order replacement lab consumables as appropriate.
o Ability to cover for other lab staff in their absence, especially an ability to
maintain pest colonies and carry out a wide range of experimental work.
o Supporting the Entomology team by ensuring that all project work is designed,
conducted, data analysed and reported, in a timely manner and to a standard
process to ensure conclusions drawn are accurate and data is available for later
use, e.g. to support registration or marketing needs.
▪ Expert Knowledge
o To conduct informative and engaging Entomology Lab Tours for a variety of
visitors, from internal colleagues to customers.
o Maintaining Insect Behaviour Google+ site, including communication of new
findings through media such as video and podcasts that engages with colleagues
in the businesses.
o Contribute articles on project work or behavioural insights for internal and
external publications, including the ability to communicate our own project
findings in an engaging way to potential stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience Essential
▪ Qualified to at least a Foundation Degree in a Biological Subject
▪ Practical experience working with urban pests
▪ Excellent knowledge of Insect biology and behaviour
▪ Ability to work independently
▪ Ability to read and understand scientific documents and academic papers to further the
understanding of pest insect culturing techniques and act on them
▪ Positive approach to early stage research project challenges
▪ Willingness to understand, execute and where necessary improve current processes
▪ Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
▪ Excellent working knowledge of desktop publishing packages, particularly Microsoft
Office and Google Cloud software.
▪ Willingness to conduct field research with senior entomologists and frontline colleagues

▪ Commercial pest control license
▪ Knowledge of insect pest control techniques
▪ Experience with ordering laboratory equipment
